Music

I can’t get enough of it. Music is a big part of my life and has been for as long as I can remember. I want to listen to it from the moment I wake up, to the moment my ears shut down to sleep.

I consider Last.fm  one of the best things since sliced bread. There is just no better way to find new artists similar to your tastes. For the last year every artist I’ve discovered has been from there. Sonata Arctica, Mago de Oz, Ayreon and everyone else. Either from looking at what my neighbours listen or from random suggestions from other users.

I also retain a music journal there, where I write, in english this time, anything music related. Usually reviews of albums I liked or anything else I might find of interest. You can always see a link to my latest music journal in the Web log.

Really, I just can’t say enough good things about Last.fm. If you’re not already registered, you should be…seriously.

My music player of choice is, of course, Amarok which I consider top notch. This is actually one of the few Free Software progs that I decided to donate to. Amarok in only for Linux at the moment, although with the future port of the KDE to windows, everyone will soon be able to enjoy it.

Since I am very interested in Music, I’m also very aware of movements by the Recording industry that tries to make everyone’s life difficult with schemes like C.R.A.P. and lobbying for law changing that benefits them only. There are quite a few articles and sites that I would recommend anyone should see and read: Anti-DMCA, Screw the Digital Rights Bugaboo, DRM is a complete lie, DeRIAA, Downhill battle and The Problem with Music

There are also quite few music related sites you should check out at some point:

  • 02.07 Quote of the day: P2P Anarcho-Communism

    Quoth DaydreamNation

Anarcho-communism is a bit like p2p data transfers. When everyone has a file and a proper system to check the integrity of their files (md5), one bad seeder doesn’t ruin the file for everyone.

    I like :)

  • 29.06 Bumming out

The Barefoot Bum’s slum seems to be suddenly closed. Anyone have any theories as for why? If he’d closed it himself I’d expect the actual content to remain for archival purposes rather than being removed.

  • 24.06 Bumming Mutualism

The Barefoot Bum has started reading and analyzing the Kevin Carson’s Studies in Mutualist Political Economy. This should be interesting. Larry generally is very sharp when it comes to such issues so if this is the first part of a series, it will be something to follow closely.
