Whether such a transition is feasible in practice is another question, but it seems that <i>trying</i> to overcome the dependence on state power is preferable to <i>enshrining</i> it as a necessity to protect private capital. The quest for values and spiritual meaning to ground culture is important, but it cannot be found in any sort of economics. The values are primary. A certain metaphysical conception of humanity's nature and the world will result in a capitalist economics, but no conclusion can repair faulty premises, and a reckless, suicidal culture is in jeopardy whether or not it means of production are in public or private hands.
