The Barefoot Bum’s slum seems to be suddenly closed. Anyone have any theories as for why? If he’d closed it himself I’d expect the actual content to remain for archival purposes rather than being removed.

I'm guessing that someone complained that he was criticizing religion, and he got shut down. (If you go to where his blog used to be and follow the links through to the Content Policy, you'll discover this little gem: "HATEFUL CONTENT: Users may not publish material that promotes hate toward groups based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity." Three guesses whether criticism of Islam — which he had recently written — is considered to "promote hate" by Muslims.)
I'm not convinced that that would be the most likely case. Blogger, as far as I can tell, is generally pretty relaxed about free speech and I don't think that the Bum's blog could be considered 'hatred' except by the most thin-skinned of complainants and similar responding Blogger employees.
I may be wrong (but I sincerely hope I'm not).
It might (and I'm not entirely convinced that this is the case) have been something to do with the recent (IMO overblown and confused) blog-spat betwixt the Bum and Heather over at Why Don't You, but I can't see him dumping his entire blog over that.
Saying that, he closed it down previously for no reason that I could see, and then resurrected it. Maybe it's just one of those "ah, fuck this blogging malarky" things…
*shrug*
Hnm, it would seem weird if he did it over the WDYB post, in which he didn't even seem to comment.
Quite.
His blog is back. It seems that something really pissed him off this time and he's closed down for good.
Well, reading his blogging output for the last month or so (especially after his premature "quitting"), I'd say it's probably some kind of burn-out.
That sounds more likely. I know I've had temporary feelings like that before.
