Στην εξωρία
Τέσσερις μέρες είμαι εξώριστος απο το σπίτι του ξαδέλφου μου μιας και έχει έρθει η κοπέλα του απο τις Η.Π.Α.
2 μέρες κοιμόμουνα σε ξενοδοχείο και τίς άλλες 2 (χθες και σήμερα) αγγάρεψα ένα φίλο να με φιλοξενήσει.
Και άυριο δουλέβω και 11,5 ώρες.
Ωραία πράγματα.
Blog εξελληνιστί
Δεν ξέρω γιατι το θυμήθηκα τώρα αυτό αλλα είναι κάτι που με ενοχλεί καθώς βλέπω την ελληνική blogοσφαιρα. Δεν υπάρχει συνοχή στην μετάφραση του blog και δημιουργούνται διάφορες ηλίθιες λέξεις.
Η πιο εκνευριστική απο αυτές είναι η “βλογ”. Είναι τελείος χαζή και δεν σημαίνει τίποτα. Είναι απλά το Blog με ελληνικούς χαρακτήρες. Το Βλόγκ είναι αμέσως επόμενο στην λίστα των ακύρων, αλλα είναι και σχετικά αστείο μιας και μου θυμίζει το Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy (στην ελληνική μετάφραση).
Τέλος είναι το Μπλόγκ, το οποίο είναι μεν πιστό στην αγγλική προφορά αλλα πάλι δεν σημαίνει τίποτα. Απλά το γράφεις όπως το ακούς. Καλύτερα να έγραφες Blog εξ’αρχης κατα την άποψη μου.
Το γιατί με ενοχλεί αυτό είναι για τον ίδιο λόγο που θα με ενοχλούσε, πχ, εαν το Bit, το λέγανε βιτ ή το γράφανε Μπίτ. Απλά δεν μου κάθεται καλά.
Εαν θυμάμαι καλά, ο ΟΤΕ είχε κάνει μια καλή μετάφραση για το Bit που όντως ήταν πιστό στην λέξη και ακουγόταν σωστά στα ελληνικά: Δυφίο (ή Δίφιο) (Δυαδικό Ψηφίο) όπως και το Bit βγαίνει απο το Binary Digit. Αυτό μου φαίνεται σαν μια πολύ καλή πρόταση για τον εξελλήνισμό του Blog
Το Blog σημαίνει Web Log, και το έχουν συντομέψει για ευκολία (φαντάζομαι). Στα ελληνικά θα μπορούσε να βγαίνει απο τις ανάλογες λέξεις Δικτυακό Ημερολόγιο (ή Ιστιακό Ημερολόγιο εαν θέλουμε να είμαστε πιο πιστοί στην λέξη)
Για να δούμε τώρα:
Δικτημερο;
Διμερογιο;
Ιστολόγιο; (Το έχω ξαναδει μου φαίνεται αυτό. Δεν έχει το σωστό νόημα όμως μια και ακούγεται σαν να εννοεί μια λίστα του Ιστού)
Δικτυολόγιο;
Ίστιο; (Σύντομο όπως το blog)
Δίγιο; (Επίσης)
Είμαι σίγουρος οτι οποιαδήποτε λέξη απο αυτές είναι καλύτερη απο το “βλογ”. Εαν απο την άλλη σ’αρεσει το “Μπλογκ”, καλύτερα γράφε απλά blog γιατι το φαινεταί ηλίθιο.

Ε νταξ. Ρε παιδιά δεν μπορώ θα σκάσω
5 PC τα 2 απο αυτά σχετικά πιο “βαρια”, μαζί με 17άρες TFT Οθόνες, όλα DELL και θα χρησιμοποιηθούν που;
Για να παίζουν μουσική. Ναι, ακριβώς κυρίες και κύριοι, θα χρησιμοποιηθούν οι ~3 GHz επεξεργαστές τους, και οι 80Gb σκληροί τους, και οι 512 RAM τους για να παίζουν μουσική. Κάτι που το έκανε και ένας Pentium 1 χωρίς κανένα πρόβλημα.
Και τι στο διάολο τις θέλουν τις 17” TFT οθόνες μου λέει κανείς. Γιατι δεν μπορούσαν να χρησιμοποιήσουν ένα Remote Desktop, ή ενα switch στην χειρότερη (Για να μην μιλήσω για web interface που το πρόγραμμα σίγουρα δεν θα υποστηρίζει).
Φυσικά και δεν πρόκειται να πω τίποτα στον Πασχαλίδη διότι θα το πάρει προσωπικά, μιας και αυτή η “Οικονομική” απόφαση ήταν σίγουρα δικιά του. Εαν δεν κριτικάρω αυτά που κάνει φαίνεται να τα πάμε καλά.
Και μετά ζητάω εγώ ένα σοβαρό μηχάνημα για να δημιουργήσω lab και τρώω πόρτα γιατι δεν φτάνουν τα λεφτά…

This guy has been posting (trolling) the same thing on every forum under the sun and he has been called on it countless times. He also posted under different aliases and names in order to give credibility and how he has been unmasked.
Only on digg he has posted the same story 3 times, one for each change he made to the article.
Now check this debunk out and notice the comments. Pwnage? I think yes!
People have actually been following him across the internet just to debunk his posts.
I’ve seen this “firefox myths” thingy pop on forums as a sig and had to put a “countersig” in order for the other guy to see the light, it’s like a god damn virus.
Too bad that it already has been dug more than a hundred times, it seems people are desperate to rain on [tag]Firefox[/tag]’s parade and are clutching at straws.
Now I’ll be the first to admit that FF has it’s own share of problems (Insert personal rant about memory hogging) but it is FAR better than IE against spyware and its extensions kick absolute ass. I’m sure I don’t need to go on, there are countless other sites to read about FF.
However it is also free (as in speech) and it gets better by the month if not by the week. It is something that gives me, the user, power to do what I want and not what the developer wants.
For example, if for some reason the mozilla foundation one day decided that firefox should have feature A that a said percentage of users found cumbersome, a new firefox would be able to be created (under another name obviously) that didn’t have it.
Firefox also does not have an agenda as IE has (promote MS Windows due to inability to work in other OS) and it will always be free (as in beer).
Anyone who uses FUD to downplay a product that has these values deserves to be called on it. If on the other hand Firefox was worse than IE, although I admit I would still use it because it is free (as in speech) I would also have no problem for other to criticize it’s existing weaknesses.

Χρόνια Λίγα και Κακά
Μιλάμε αυτή την πρωτοχρονιά περασα κα-τα-πλη-κτι-κ-α έτσι; Απίστευτες κραιπάλες, ποτά και χωρός μέχρι τελικής πτώσεως και μετά όργια στο καπάκι για να στρώσει η επόμενη μέρα
Ε, ποιον κοροιδεύω; Σκατά κατα κόρον. Παρασκευή μέσα, Σάββατο μέσα μέχρι το βράδι που πήγα στο σπίτι του γκόμενου της αδελφής μου και κέρδισα 4 έουρο στην εικοσιμία και μετά μια βόλτα απο λαδάδικα που κέρδισα άλλα 5 απο την ηλιθιότητα του πορτιέρη. Κυριακή μέσα. Δευτέρα μέσα. Τώρα μέσα…
Και γαμώ ε; Ποιός στην χάρη μου.
Και τι έκανα καθώς καθόμουν μέσα με τον άπειρο χρόνο μου; Έβλεπα Lost και έπαιζα Wesnoth. Τρελό κάψιμο δηλαδη. Κάτι μου ήρθε σε μια φάση να ξεκινήσω δικό μου campaign στο [tag]Wesnoth[/tag] αλλα μόλις καθόμουν στον υπολογιστή βαριόμουν. Κλάιν. Λιγο στην δουλειά σήμερα μου ήρθε έμπνευση αλλα κλάιν again.
Γιατί τόσο μέσα; Έ έξαφανίστηκαν όλοι. Οι μισοί στα χωριά τους, οι 2 στρατό, ο ένας με την γκόμενα δεν έμεινε και κανείς…η τουλάχιστον έτσι κοροϊδευω τον εαυτό μου για να δικαιολογήσω το γεγονός οτι και εγώ δεν έκανα ιδιαίτερο κόπο να πάρω τηλέφωνα (Ντάξ πήρα μερικά αλλα μετα απο 2-3 απογοητεύτηκα). Δεν με πήρε και κανένας, οπότε…μέσα.
Ξεκίνησα να παίζω και Dofus την προηγούμενη εβδομάδα αλλα το βαρέθηκα σε χρόνο DT και τώρα προσπαθώ να πείσω τον Άγγελο να πάιζουμε μαζί.
Πάλι καλά που δεν με βρήκε ο νέος χρόνος μόνο μου δηλαδή
Long time coming
For the last few days I have been living most of the day in the office. Just today I closed 13 hours inside. The Active Directory has b0rked and I have been trying to fix it with the help of Microsoft and various other so called experts. Unfortunately nothing has worked and today things took a turn for the worse.
In a try to restore our previous configuration we decided to restore a previous version of the system using the Legato Networker program. In hindsight, it was a big mistake, especially the part where we started it at 6pm. At around 9:15pm and after reinstalling the 2000 Server for the second time we decided to call it a night.
This was the third day I had stayed at work late and it’s getting ridiculous. I’ve been trying to go to the post office for two days now and I can’t find the time.
Tomorrow promises to be even better. We’ll go to the office at 6:30am which means I need to get up at 5:45 and there’s no promise at all that I’m going to leave early enough to manage to GM the Evernight campaign.
At least I know it’s not my fault and even if it were, all traces have been wiped out by now 🙂
Sigh Going to sleep any time now. Military wake-up tomorrow…
Is this unbelievable or what?
2 friggin’ days after putting another m/b on my PC and yesterday I come home after playing some warlord and find the system halted. No response to any key combinations so I restart only to find out, to my dismay, that the system will not boot and the speaker does a beeping sequence. I originally thought that was the sequence for RAM error, so I take out the two dimms and it does another sound. I change their position, put them in again and it does the first one. Not RAM error then.
I take out the VGA, boot, same beeps. Put it in, boot, same beeps. So I figure it’s that. I take it to my workplace, test it on another PC. It boots fine. FUCK! What is it then? It can’t be the M/B unless for some reason the AGP power feed has shut down for some reason and I can’t fuckin’ think how that would happen.
I plan to take a VGA from here to my PC to see how that works out.
What I really want to know however is it that has jinxed me.

For FUCK’S sake, the fuckin’ aluminum shaft broke! How fuckin’ unlucky can I get? I don’t even have it for a month and it broke! AAARGH!
I am so GOD DAMN PISSED OFF right now I could punch someone!
This ruined my whole night (and it looked promising as well 🙁 ) and probably tomorrow as well.
I just sent a mail to the company that I bought it from Firetoys and I hope for a quick response. I hope as hell they take it back and I also hope they don’t make me pay the postal cost. They’ll cost as much as the actual thing for fuck’s sake.

Argh! Panic!
I’m metaphorically running around like a headless chicken.
I’m saying metaphorically because I’m not actually running around but I’ve been switching through support tasks so quickly that it sure feels that way.
Today I’ve fixed the damn DFS replication of the primary file server and what I gained for my trouble is a loss or user rights in the dfs and me frantically scrabbling around to see what happened. I reset the system, took the opportunity to update the AV engine as well and between two reboots I’ve had about a million fuckin calls, and that was after I sent a notification that users should get out of the shared folders.
‘Kosta, some people got a message to close their files on shared folders but I didn’t’
‘Did you have open files on shared folders?’
‘No’
‘Then it’s logical not to get messaged isn’t it?’
‘Kosta, my shared folders are not opening’
‘I’m still working on it. I didn’t give the OK to get in yet. Why are you trying?’
‘Uh OK, when will they be up again?’
‘I dunno, probably as soon as I can get off the phone and keep working on it.’
(Well, OK. I didn’t say that last part, but I really wanted to)
‘KOSTA OMG I NEED THE SHARED FOLDERS OPEN FOR ME BECAUSE I NEED TO DO SOMETHING FOR THE IRS. IS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!1!’
(Trying to keep calm) ‘Uh, I can’t do that. I’m still in the middle of it’
‘OPEN THEM JUST FOR ME, STOP WORKING I DON’T CARE. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND? WHY DIDN’T YOU CONTACT ME!’
‘Look, I cannot just “open” them for you. I’m trying to fix the system and I’m in the middle of it and I…’

and on top of that the ERP server started failing and even more calls started pouring in.
So I was trying to fix a server while answering stupid questions about two servers.
Finally we got things in line and I found out the real cause of the problem and I hope it stays fixed.
Then I tried to update the antivirus of the primary domain controller. Only he didn’t have IE6, but for some reason it thought it needed a reboot. So I do that, and the backup domain controller does not take control, so everybody is unauthenticated, which means out of the exchange server, until the primary is back up.
It comes up, I install the explorer, reboot and the same again, only now I’m also in fear because the IE6 setup has a tendency to crash the system in some cases and if that happened now…well, I’m just happy it didn’t.
Anyway it comes back up, and I install the new AV, and now I’m waiting for the inevitable reboot request, which won’t happen.
Then a remote router failed because the technicians trying to fix the network between two small stores were careless and took out one small cable, bringing down approximately 100 users. Then the systems are too slow, then the programs are not working, then…ARGH. As soon as one problem appears everyone thinks that everything is broken.
Oh and my “good mood” is not alleviated at all by my near sickness, which means a runny nose and a constant cough.
