I just found out carnage blender. It’s a game where you take the role of managing a team of gladiators and you take on other team constantly increasing your stats and abilities. It’s pretty addictive and it also sports a nice chat feature to use while you fight around. (I currently can’t due to the damn firewall at work 🙁 ). In any case I happily wasted a few hours kicking some butt until I answered wrong a bot-test question and got locked out for 60 mins…damn those letters are hard to make out.

Yesterday night something irritating happened at my outing. I went out originally by myself because as always I couldn’t find anyone to come with me. So I found a friend at the [tag]X Club[/tag] and hanged out near her for a while. She was there with her friends and at some point I said something that could be taken both humorously and as an insult to one of her friends. Well guess how she took it…In any case, I apologized if I offended in which her reply was literally “To by balls!” How’s that for woman’s grace. In any case I didn’t waste any more time with that bitch but turned my attention to the rest of the crowd. At some point later someone spilled a glass or something behind me, wetting even me. I didn’t give much notice until I saw said girl pointing at me. Confused I assumed they were making a joke or something so I smiled at which point she came with the same bitchy attitude and demanded that I pay for the drink that I spilled. Things degenerated quickly and I decided to bail out because she was both drunk and bitchy and I wasn’t going to ruin my mood for her. Unfortunately it seems she didn’t waste time to tell our common friend that I was to blame. I don’t know how it will develop the next time I see her (them?). Oh well.

The rest of the night sucked.

Well, I’ve started playing two games on the net. The Kingdom of Loathing is an excellent humorous MORPG that anyone should play at least once. Loads of fun and a complete waste of time to boot.
As I was looking to find one on the same style only a bit more serious and maybe with better gameplay I stumbled onto Strive for power which is very nice. However the fact that you can’t really play if you are not a subscriber (20 ap per hour is not enough to even move around) and that I can’t shell out the kind of money a subscription costs (it is only slightly less than a MMORPG) makes me search around for something else.

Now, I’m at work again and boredom is creeping slowly but steadily in. I have to check our network for virii and the tools never seem to work right. It seems one of them snuck into an unprotected win98 machine and started flooding the network with packets. The routers held but the accelerator puked and started doing whatever it wanted. A technician from it’s mother company had to connect to locate problem and trace it back to the original machine. Needless to say this was blamed (mildly) on me and I had to recheck all the machines for correct definitions and scan engines. bleh.
Now I have to send 4 laserjets to stores around Greece and I hate carrying.

My Linux enthusiasm has waned as well, I just can’t get off my lazy butt and find out why gkrellm2 segfaults all the time. At least Amarok seems to have stabilized since I started using the xine engine. It seems it was something to do with the alsa driver but the steps I took didn’t trace the problem.

Relationship is a mixed deal as well. I’m still hanging out with my new friend but it isn’t going to happen. There were some close encounters but unfortunately nothing special. At least an older acquaintance showed up and may be available for coffee soon.

I just found out that I was horribly wrong on my interpretation of an error in a cellphone. Recently a friend of mine has been complaining that her cellphone had a caribe virus. I didn’t believe her. Needless to say that I had to offer an apology today after I searched the web and found this. Oh well, that should get me off my high horse. At least I found a way to remove it which should make her happy 🙂

Recent days have been a bit tumulus, I met this girl, we became friends and we have developed a good bond I think. I also found that my sister broke up and her ex that is also a personal friend of mine is really pissed. It seems I’m stuck right in the middle which is not somewhere I like to be.

I also started dealing in blogshares but I’ve already started to get bored with it. There’s only so much small industries you can buy and sell and the transaction limit is very low to get a good profit going. However I won’t spend 15$ for something I will get bored within 1 week.

I got a free Evanescence DVD from my boss, Anywhere But Home. It’s pretty good quality but I already had most of the music videos (other than the promo one). Best thing of course was Amy Lee. However that DVD motivated me to start downloading music videos again, Cthulhu bless mldonkey.
Speaking of which, mldonkey does work perfectly but I still have some gripes on the overall speed of the donkey network. I never seem to be able to get more than 16kb/s download at a time even when I’m downloading 30 stuff at the time. Good Torrents easily reach 40kb/s within a few minutes and stay there.
It also seems that it is not easy to find stuff in other networks like Gnutella2 and DC. Although I connect there, I rarely find anything there on my searches.
I also seems that The RIAA is getting into Europe in force, already there have been movements against British and German d/lers. I hope it takes them a good long while to get here.

Ever had one of those days where everything looks great? Well it’s such a day for me. I had a pretty nice night out yesterday, I’ve got a pretty nice day ahead of me, I feel like the king of the world! I am also without sleep and run on caffeine 🙂
So I’m at work, solving TNS listener problems, giving my debriefing, setting up Gentoo (which is currently stuck at emerge) and surfind the web. Nothing special.

I just found out that Anorimoi have a new web page. There are one of the greatest and funniest greek metal parody bands around. Manowar should phear these guys, what with albums like Farting the world 🙂
They are pretty decent music-wise as well so any metalheads should definitely check them out (and try to find a translation as well).

I still can’t make Gentoo at home to behave. amaroK keeps crashing for no obvious reason, when I use Alsa as well as OSS. Gkrellm also segfaulted constantly but it stopped doing it now, I think it may have been a specific plugin but I haven’t really changed anything. STFW didn’t help much 🙁

On the music note, it seems Audioscrobbler has stopped receiving submissions for some reason. It seems their server problems are harder than they make it seem but their front page wants to imply that there isn’t much to worry about. If anyone cared to check their status however it would seem that they don’t accept any submissions at all. Not much of a problem for me other than a bit annoying.

So, yeah I’m energetic!

Damn, I just read this story about a gambling site that managed to not only suppress an DDOS attack but also find and help to the arrest of the attackers. This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside 🙂
It also makes me motivated to learn more stuff about networking. I mean, here I am, 24.6 years old and I have almost no knowledge on computers even though I tend to be the most knowledgable of my friends.
I don’t understand however why I get so bored when I get back home, I just can’t seem to be able to lift a finger to learn new stuff

Finally set Fluxbox up and running, learned about slits, dockapps, and some other stuff. Now the thing is starting to look cool!
I also set up my Smoothwall and I can finally feel secure enough. I can see a whole lot of portscanning going on but hopefully it doesn’t get past my smoothie. I was afraid its setup was going to be hard but it was a breeze.

Yesterday I also went with my sister to my cousin’s village to “celebrate” easter. It wasn’t as boring as I thought but it wasn’t very great either. Greek Ethnic tends to annoy me.

The last few days have seen a great deal of late night drinking and dancing/headbanging. I spend too much money and I don’t get any hot nekkid chickz…*sigh*

Now I’ve also heard who’s coming for this Summer. Megadeth, Dio, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden and a whole lot of others. I’m going to turn into a ping-pong ball to manage to see all those and I also will need to save a lot of money as well. The Rockwave prices are preposterous as well, I mean WTF 60€ for black sabbath and 45€ for the rest? What do they think we are? We should go to Bulgaria with 15 euros…

I also need to go out today and must still find some company to do it…grr

Well, that’s it then. I said goodbye to all my friends, left my guild and cancelled my [tag]WoW[/tag] account. I just couldn’t find the will to play. Perhaps in the future I will reactivate it to play but for now, I want to check on Guild Wars.

Gentooing

Yay! Started installing Gentoo on my home system and everything seems to be going well for the time being. I left it happily compiling kde-meta at home. I hope it is done when I get home.

I also visited the Thessaloniki Games Fair this weekend, got into a Hot-shots live session and managed to kill two people with some John-Woo action. In the end my crappy weapons jammed and I got a bullet in the guts. Twas fun!
The rest of the fair wasn’t anything great. Not so much atendees and not too many events all around.

I’m seriously thinking of quitting [tag]WoW[/tag]. I just don’t play anymore and I don’t think I will. Perhaps I will play by this Wednesday although I doubt it.

And hey! The weekend was pretty sweet in any case.
