So here I am in Facebook now. I was never much into social sites (I pretty much loath Yourspace) and I don’t know how much this fad will last me but I’ve created a little profile and started enriching it with pics and vids and group memberships and shit.

Initially it all was so that I could help out with the Non-christian group but then I decided to start an ACP group as well and things went quickly downhill from there. Now I’m at the point where I’m spamming all my friends to join so that I can tag their faces with their name 😉

Even this post is a tribute to this monster of lost time as I’m actually trying to see if my wordbook plugin is working since it decided to make my life a bit difficult by not being configured as a good little plugin.

Anyway, y’all come and join now and then add me as a friend. I’ve got pictures with your ugly mugs around that I need to classify. If you are already there and are using nifty application, let me know of any good ones that I might like. Cheers!

Oh, I’m also posting this to the Planet LGU since we have a little group in there as well that you might want to join.

Παίρνοντας την σκυτάλη απο εδώ, λέω να ενδυναμώσω μερικούς ορθότατους τίτλους για να χρησιμέψουν στις Google-αναζητήσεις μας. Έχουμε και λέμε λοιπόν…

Γεμίσε η Ελλάδα με ληστές και ψέυτες, αλλα μας δουλέβει και o καραγκιόζης, αλλά πιστέυω δεν πρέπει να ξεχνάμε τους απατεώνες.

Update: Απ’οτι φαίνεται, τα Google Bombs σαν το παραπάνω, δεν δουλέβουν πια. Κρίμα…

Hypocritical D?

I was watching music videos of Tenacious D songs on YouTube, when my eye fell upon this one:

Tenacious D – Jack Black on Piracy

Now, this strikes me as quite strange for two reasons. First of all I thought Jack Black was much cooler than this. Almost until the end of it, I honestly expected him to support piracy in some funny way. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed to see that he was actually serious on condemning it.

I wouldn’t be so annoyed by that per-se, as piracy, in the original sense of the word (cheap movies sold on the street etc) rewarded the wrong people, but in this vid, he seems to be against file sharing in general which is just wrong. There is just so much arguments to support piracy that I don’t even care to divulge on the point here. Let’s just say that if it was not for piracy, I would never support Tenacious D and/or even know who the fuck they were.

Second, isn’t Jack an avid weed smoker? Isn’t it just a tad hypocritical to talk about right and wrong when he himself breaks the law without remorse? It is not that I am against drug use (far from it) but this shows that Jack Black realizes that the law is not always correct, and thus he chooses to ignore and break it. No, if millions of people who decide that file-sharing should not be illegal are “Douches” (especially since the facts are in their favor) then what does that make Jack, hmmm?

My initial opinion would be, unfortunately, that he has become a Sellout. Pity because my respect for him and his work just dropped considerably.

Can he not realize that it is file-sharing and word-of-mouth that empowered him to such a degree? If it wasn’t for thousands of people sending each other “that funny song” (Fuck her gently) and “that funny video” (Tribute) does he think that he would be as known as he is?
Would Tenacious D become famous in Corporate America, with this combination of music and lyrics and humor that they use? If you think that, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you…

Ρε παιδιά, υπάρχει καμία εξηγηση γιατί σχεδόν όλοκληρη η ελληνική blogo-σφαίρα πάει και ανοίξει ιστολόγια στο blogspot όταν υπάρχει το WordPress.com το οποίο είναι απλά ανώτερο σε λειτουργία ;

Καταλαβαίνω οτι είναι κυρίως το word-of-mouth (δηλαδή οι περισσότεροι Έλληνες μαθαίνουν για τα ιστολόγια από άτομα που είναι γραμμένα στο blogspot) αλλά η υπεροχή του wordpress θα έπρεπε να μετράει για κάτι έτσι δεν είναι;

Αν εξαιρέσει κανείς το γεγονός οτι στο wordpress.com δεν σου επιτρέπουν να βγάλεις χρήματα, κατι που έχει δημιουργήσει μια μικρή αντίδραση, πιστεύω οτι η υπεροχή βρίσκεται χαλαρά στην πλευρά του wordpress.com. Ιδιαίτερα εαν προσθέσεις το γεγονός οτι τα ιστολόγια που βρίσκονται στο blogspot παίρνουν πολύ μικρότερη προταιρεότητα στα αποτελέσματα του google λόγο των splogs που βρίσκονται εκεί μέσα (Ο οποίος ήταν και ο λόγος που στο wordpress.com κατάργησαν τα “χρηματιζόμενα” ιστολόγια)

Προσωπικά πιστεύω οτι εαν είναι να πληρώσεις χρήματα για το ιστολόγιο σου, είναι προτιμότερο να πας σε μια εταιρία hosting, και να πάρεις μια δική σου σελίδα, στην οποία θα έχεις πολύ μεγάλύτερη ευελιξία έτσι και αλλιώς. Με τις τιμές που υπάρχουν τώρα (7 ευρώ τον μήνα για 300+Gb), είναι απλά η καλύτερη επιλογή.

Ελευθερία του Λιακοπούλειου λόγου

Ωχ παιδιά δεν μπορώ, δεν ασχολήθηκα με τον Λιακόπουλο παραπάνω απ’οτι είχα διαβάσει για την υπόθεση Τσιπρόπουλου αλλά έτυχε να πέσει στα μάτια μου το παρακάτω άθλιο βιντεάκι αυτού του ανθρώπου.

Ρε σείς, τι λέει το άτομο; Έλεος, έλεος ας είναι και σπορέλαιος! Είναι ξεκάθαρο οτι μιλάει φυσικά για το funel και προσπαθεί να περάσει το μήνυμα οτι ο τύπος που το έγραφε, τα έπαιρνε κανονικά για να θάβει τον Λιακόπουλο. Όχι οτι ο τύπος είναι ρόμπα ξεκούμπωτη και σηκώνει μεγάλο δούλεμα…

Ακούστε ατάκες…

Αυτούς όλους που κάνουν περίεργα πράγματα πρέπει να τους εντοπίσουμε και να τους βγάλουμε στην άκρη…

Μάλιστα. Με το “περίεργα πράγματα” φυσικά, εννοεί ότι πάει αντίθετα με αυτά που θέλει να περάσει ή με ότι κριτικάρει της μπούρδες που ξεστομίζει.

Η κυβέρνηση έχει βάλει τα τσιράκια της…-… που, “αναγκασμένο” πλέον, το κράτος θα πει, ααα, όλοι πρέπει να είναι φανεροί.

Μα ναι, όλα είναι μια συνομοσία ενάντια στον Λιακόπουλο και στον ελέυθερο λόγο απο την Νέα Τάξη Πραγμάτων. “Μέσα σε μια νύχτα” θα κλειδώσουν το Ιντερνέτ συνεχίζει να λέει, άσχετο πόσο αδύνατον είναι αυτό και πόσο πολύ δείχνει την άγνοια του για το πως λειτουργούν τα πράγματα.

Το πιο χαρακτηριστικό απο αυτά που λέει

Εαν δεν περιχαρακώσουμε την ελευθερία του λόγου…

Α ρε “ελληνορθόδοξε” κρυπτοφασίστα Λιακόπουλε, ξεχάστηκες για λίγο και έδειξες το πραγματικό πρόσωπο σου ε; Αυτή είναι λοιπόν η πρόταση του; Να μειώσουμε την ελευθερία του λόγου ώστε να μπορεί να επιζήσει η “ελευθερία του λόγου”…που θα συμφέρει τον Λιακόπουλο, και κάθε Λιακόπουλο.

Είναι απίστευτο πόσο υποκριτικό είναι να βλέπεις το άτομο, το οποίο ξεδιάντροπα επιτέθηκε στην ίδια ελευθερία που υπερασπίζεται, με αποτέλεσμα ένα εντελώς αθώο άτομο να περάσει τον Γολγοθα, να φτιάχνει βιντεάκι με τίτλο “SOS ELEFTHERIA STO INTERNET“…πραγματικά αηδιαστικό.

Θέλετε κι’αλλη υποκρισία. Έχει βάλει και τα σχόλια του βίντεο σε moderation ώστε να μην φαίνεται τίποτα άσχημο απο κάτω (Σοβαρά, δείτε το, ούτε ένα κακό λόγο δεν έχει και από τα 6000 views υπάρχουν μόνο 6 σχόλια). Σιγά μην αφήσει το δικό μου σχόλιο να περάσει δηλαδή…

Αυτό είναι φυσικά το καλό με τα blogs, μπορώ να τον σχολιάσω όσο του αξίζει και δεν μπορεί να με φιμώσει όσο και να προσπαθεί.

Α ναι, ένα άλλο ενδιαφέρον πράγμα με αυτό το βιντεάκι (εκτώς απο τις απίστευτα άκυρες συνομοσιολογικές θεωρίες) είναι το γεγονός οτι λέει το ίδιο πράγμα 3 φορές. Απλά ξεχνιέται που και που και αρχίζει να μιλάει για κάτι εντελός άσχετο και μετά όταν επανέρχεται, έχοντας ξεχάσει τι είπε 20 δευτερόλεπτα πιο πρίν, το ξαναλέει.

Ρόμπα Λιακόπουλε, νομίζεις οτί το “Ιντερνέτ” είναι το ίδιο πράγμα με την τηλεόραση, στην οποία μπορείς να αγνοείς τον αντίλογο; Ετοιμάσου για μεγάλο μπουγέλο όταν αποφασίσεις να γίνεσαι τακτικός στα μέρη μας. Ξέχνα αυτά που ήξερες…

Damn spam!

I am annoyed. I thought I was mostly free of the ravages of spam after activating Akismet and Bad Behaviour but it seems that there is one thing that is still affected by them and that is the Popularity Contest Plugin. Unfortunately even though Akisment is good enough to grab the spam after it’s been posted, the popularity plugin still logs the WordPress call and counts the comment. As a result I see posts rising to the top when they have no reason to do so and Populatiry Contest reports 50+ comments while there none (they’re all caught).

Argh! So annoying…

Now I have to find a way to reset the count for these particular posts and hopefully get a better version of Bad Behaviour that will be able to stop more [tag]spam[/tag] bots before they have a chance to post.

UDATE: Fortunately the author of the plugin anticipated this and provided a handy button to recount the comments (I initially did not push it because it said “reset”). Popularity is back to normal now. Eeeeexcellent! 🙂

Silenced cannons

There goes PirateShare then. I just learned about it from a last.fm forum where I had posed the link in times past. The information just notes that nobody helped the guy when he asked for it but it does not mention the reasons. I can only guess that someone decided to sue them or their bandwidth costs just went through the roof or something.

The site apparently closed down at the 20th of June and had posted a plea for help just 24 hours before that. I pretty much understand how nobody could respond as the site was not really popular yet for enough people to learn about it. Hell checking at Technocrati, there is not a single link to the site currently. Unfortunately with only 3 months live, the name did not get around much.

The nature of the site also meant the people would not visit the homepage as much. Most probably had a link and then gave that away when needed. The plea would only be seen by people wanting to upload something new. And there certainly should not have been a lot of them since I’ve never actually seen a pirateshare link around since the time I discovered the site. In this age, unfortunately, there are better solutions. For example I use my private ftp access to give files to friends for the bandwidth is just so much better. Others use IM or one of the other uploading (and more popular) sites out there.

In the end, it is a shame to see the site go, and I’d like to know what happened as it could really be another attack by the copyrights lobby, but overall the hit to our lives is not great. I guess those Polar Bears where not enough after all.

I have finally secured my online ID as far as I can do so while also making my passwords a bit easier to remember. It always bugged me that I had to either use the same password for all the sites or write down all my passwords so that I don’t forget. In the end I settled for a path in the middle where non important sites (like forums and social networking ones) where using the same old classic password and the important site (gmail, wordpress etc) has a customized password – and I still ended up forgetting a lot of them all the time. Even then I was not happy because I couldn’t realistically change my passwords at set intervals as I would have wanted to (well, I could but it would take me all day) and in order not to forget them easily I had to use a custom kind of mix that I could remember.

Fortunately, as I was looking around today for something to make the save dialog of [tag]Firefox[/tag] a bit better (I has unsuccessful btw) I stumbled onto this [tag]extension[/tag]. Now I can create strong passwords for evey site without having to bother remembering anything else other than the master key. Not only that but I can easily update a [tag]password[/tag] just by “bumping” the site and I can update all my passwords just by changing the master key. I’ll still have to go to each site and update the password; but it’s still easier than thinking of a new one that I can memorize while still keeping it hard to guess.

If I was feeling extra paranoid, I could even stop firefox from memorizing my passwords and it would still not be very difficult for me to type the password each time.

Oh yes, I love my firefox extensions 🙂
